The external Ignition Coils for breaker ignitions are available up to the Vespa 150 VL/VB/GS models. Ignition Coils for E-ignitions are referred to as Electronic Units. The electronic control unit for the PX is also required when converting from Contact Breaker to E-ignition. Misfires that indicate a defective electronic control unit are often caused by broken contacts or splash water. Conclusion: These parts belong in every garage and glove compartment as spare parts and anyone who forgets them at home on a long tour will be annoyed. Note: The Ignition Coils of earlier Models were made from one of the first fully synthetic plastics. We use the technical term Bakelite for this. Bakelite is a thermoset based on phenolic resin plastics. It is electrically non-conductive, often black or red, but can become brittle and break over time.
